Advice For Transforming Leadership, Culture, Curiosity, And Communication From Beth Wonson

Is Your Life Aligned with Who You’ve Become?

As I look back over my career in coaching, consulting, and advising, the work I’ve loved most has always happened when we get down to the issues underneath the issues.

Clients often hear me say that the specific challenge you call me about is usually just a symptom. What actually changes the trajectory of your life is digging into the underlying patterns, trends, and triggers.

For example, I worked with a brilliant manager who couldn’t understand why she wasn’t being considered for senior leadership despite her stellar output. As we worked together, we uncovered a protective pattern she had developed as a teenager when she felt awkward and insecure. To stay safe, she kept herself small: keeping her head down, staying quiet in meetings, and waiting silently for someone to notice her hard work. She didn’t believe she’d ever be “chosen,” so she never put herself out there. Recognizing that old pattern was the turning point that allowed her to step into her authority at work and in her life. Within 4 months, she was asked to join the leadership team.

Another client—a high-achieving professional who seemingly “had it all” came to me feeling deeply disconnected in her personal relationships and exhausted by constant burnout. On paper, her life was enviable. But underneath, she had a lifelong habit of putting everyone else’s needs first, suppressing her own truth to keep the peace. That dynamic was spilling into every corner of her life, leaving her feeling unseen and unfulfilled. By giving her compassionate, direct feedback, we identified where she was holding back. Together, we created concrete strategies to set real boundaries and build genuine, trusting connections. She began making small changes, choosing what she wanted over what she thought would please others, and began finding joy in her life again.

People often ask me how I spot what’s holding someone back and help them navigate forward. It comes down to a few core strengths:

Endless curiosity: I observe, research, and deeply study human behavior. I am a lifelong student of what makes us tick.

Listening: I have the ability to listen deeply. To hear what is often not said. And to help you make certain that your story is actually the truth or if it is informed by the labels and opinions of others.

Pattern recognition: We all rely on patterns to navigate the world and protect ourselves. But these habits—often formed long ago through socialization or upbringing—don’t always serve where we want to go next. To break a pattern, you first have to see it. My job is to hold up the mirror, walk beside you, and give you a safe, supportive space to try out new ways of being.

Age and deep life experience: I’ve lived a full life. I’ve reflected on the wins, the losses, and the lessons in between. Whether you’re navigating a career shift, an empty nest, a loss of identity, or a quiet realization that you want something different, chances are I’ve navigated it myself or guided someone through it.

Unshakeable belief in human potential: I don’t come in with a rigid playbook or preconceived ideas of what your life “should” look like. I listen to what you truly want, and I support you in getting there—even when you doubt if it’s possible.

Kind, honest candor: If you aren’t being honest with yourself, I’m going to question it—with warmth, kindness, and humor. I won’t let you talk yourself out of what you truly want just because fear, discomfort, or self-doubt show up.

After 20 years of doing this work, I am expanding my practice beyond corporate walls to work directly with individuals who are navigating the complex, joyous, difficult, and rewarding experience of personal transformation.

If you are at a point where you’re asking, “Is this it?” or wondering how your life can be more aligned with who you truly are, let’s talk.
