“I’m betwixt and between.” I’ve always heard that expression but never quite knew where that was. So if I were to find myself there – how would I know? Well, I am there and now I know. Here is the only way I can explain it. This place – betwixt and between – is like a big, grassy spot under a beautiful, shady tree. Only I’ve come to this place after hiking up a steep, sun-drenched mountain path. The joy of the scenery on the way up the hill was amazing. But the climb was long, hot and dusty. The…

It is a bridge not a leap!
Good riddance 2015!Not sorry to see you go 2015. Not looking back. These are just some of the sentiments I see on social media with regard to last year. And for me too, there were events in 2015 that I’m not sad to be done with such as: Bumpy transitions. Decisions that didn’t generate the results I hoped for. Regretful moments where I reacted with anger. Times of sadness or loss. Today I’m sharing a simple yet valuable exercise to help you turn the experiences of 2015 into incredible information to guide you through 2016 and beyond. I am encouraging…

Want to be highly valued? 9 Time-tested Tips
My mom and dad taught me most everything I know about being a valued employee. Today I am sharing their top tips! My folks, Evelyn and Fletcher, built a successful florist and greenhouse business. They never were formally trained in business but because of self-leadership, resource management, determination, and relentless learning, their success lasted over 50 years. Here are some nuggets from the Evelyn & Fletcher Wonson School of Practical Management: 1. Watch the pennies, and the dollars take care of themselves. God help you if you wasted anything. According to Mom, every piece of material, every flower and every leaf…

El Nino – Don’t take it personally!
I love water. Really I do. I love water to bathe in, cook with, and its refreshing qualities on a hot day. I don’t love water in my garage. Thankfully El Nino is coming! This means a great deal of water will be running willy-nilly all over my neighborhood. Even though I love water, I need to set some boundaries to protect my home. I have to take a stand and do my best to manage the water according to what supports my long-term goals and what doesn’t. Specifically, water coming under the garage door and flooding my garage doesn’t support…

What is your Selfie Stick?
I had some opinions about Selfie Sticks. Okay, more than opinions – negative judgments. In my mind Selfie Sticks were a silly, tacky gadget for the masses. Their owners were primarily tourists or young girls. I considered Selfie Sticks trendy, a fad, and a flash in the pan. Certainly not something I’d ever own. Then on Christmas morning my stocking contained a Selfie Stick! I was a little blown away by how giddy and delighted I was. Suddenly, because Santa brought it, being a Selfie Stick owner was okay! I actually heard myself squealing over a hot pink Selfie Stick.…

How much are you spending?
I’ve been hearing myself say this over and over in coaching sessions and in workshops so I thought I’d share it with you as well! In our personal life, as well as in our work life, we have a variety of resources from which to draw. We can really boil these resources down into three specific categories: Money Expertise and skill Time Money. We can always generate more money. We can work harder, create new revenue streams, attract a new donor or write another grant. Expertise and skill. We can easily access more skill, expertise or knowledge. We can hire new talent,…

There was never another big, fancy holiday party…
Last week Chris Freer from Smart Women Talk Radio interviewed me about my book “Let Go of the Rock”. The book is about beliefs, myths or patterns of behavior that hold us back or no longer serve us. Chris wanted to know what were some of the “rocks” that have been most challenging for me. Right now the answer to this is easy because it is really fresh to me. Expectations! Letting go of my expectations around how things “should” be or “ought” to be, makes my life happier, simpler and drama-free. But it isn’t always easy for me to recognize these rocks.…

Give yourself the gift of clean giving!
Have you ever read a post on social media that permeates your headspace and takes hold? You aren’t quite sure why or what it taps into, but the message resonates so deeply that you know it is some how your message too? I experienced that this week. A coach who I know and respect posted about how his young daughter loves to draw pictures and give them to others. A child on her school bus admired the daughter’s mittens and so the daughter drew a picture of the mittens and offered it to the admirer. The post went on to…

I Have To Be Able To Vent!
According to researchers, venting actually continues or recreates the same activity in our brain as anger does. The act of venting sustains that anger-based activity for longer periods of time. In other words, whatever yucky feelings you are experiencing (anger, disappointment, sadness) would have disappeared sooner had you not gone into venting mode.

Get out of the stew!
One of the greatest honors I receive is when I am asked to hold private workshops for groups of friends or families. My appreciation stems from the fact that individuals are entrusting me with their most valuable, non-renewable resource – time! And just as with an investor or financial advisor, they have confidence that I have the skills to spend it wisely. Perhaps they are seeking knowledge, or a solution, or are hoping to uncover how they keep themselves smaller than they were created to be. Regardless, when a few of the 24 precious hours in a day are allotted…
