I Have High Hopes for This Year

Here we are in 2026!

It seemed so far off for so long, and I have such high hopes for this year. But I also know that just because the calendar changes doesn't mean I have. This means that if there are changes I'm hoping to see in 2026 for myself, they must be accompanied by a plan and then action.

I'd love to believe that my intention to make changes is enough and that the universe will magically make way for those changes to occur. But I know that while good fortune is possible, and I'm open to receiving all of it, I must also be ready to receive.

Here are a few simple ways I prepare both in my work life and my personal life:

If I want new things to come forward for me, I must create space. This can mean a wide range of things—from letting go of something I'm doing that either is no longer relevant or no longer meaningful, to literally clearing out physical space or time in my day.

I need to listen with my heart and my brain. I pick up on signs that affirm I'm headed in the right direction. These can be the feelings in my body (calm and focused—go forward; anxious and worried—pause) or they can be actual feedback and rewards that I get as I present ideas or try new strategies.

I must allow myself to be vulnerable and in the beginner's mindset. Change is uncomfortable. New pursuits can leave me feeling unsure. My first attempts may be sloppy or miss the target entirely. Being aware and comfortable with discomfort are the hallmarks of people who innovate, create, make significant change, and disrupt outdated norms. I love being in this space, but it doesn't always feel great.

I strive to be open to new collaborators, partners, mentors, and teachers. Sometimes the people who are here to show me the way, teach me something new, or give me the feedback I need to hear rub me the wrong way. However, I know that everyone comes into my life for a reason, so I try to hear the message without blaming the messenger. Showing up in this way can lead to some really exciting learning and skill development, but it isn't always easy.

In 2026, my biggest goal is to continue to grow, stretch, learn, and expand my connections beyond what they are today. You may have heard me say before that I know this world is full to the brim with amazing, inspirational, and inspiring people who just appear to be everyday Joes like you and me. But when I take time to sit, listen, and be open-hearted, I connect with gems and sparkles in each one—even when I may initially feel uncomfortable.
